Motorola MOTOACTV Edition Sports Player
I bought this watch about month ago. No problems in connecting via wifi or through PC. updating to new software was not a problem I have taken my watch to my golf course and I find it better than garmin in terms of features. Expect to charge the battery every day if you are using gps either walking, golf ing or Mp3 use while doing sport s activities. I don't find it annoying to charge as I have the same issues with my cell phones. Bluetooth works with my iPhone and headphones.
I note that while it found my golf course quickly upon arrival at the course, the par numbers for some of the holes were not accurate. I tried to revise the pars hoping that it will retain the revised pars for the next game but it does not seem to work. Also, the watch does not give hazard distances for my course. Although it does not bother me but it would be nice for Motorola to have better golf courses database to match with the other superior features of this watch .. On the positive side, I like the golf score keeping features on this watch as they can be executed by pressing the screen.
When you insert the pin for headphones into the watch , one needs to remove a tiny tiny tiny plug. The plug is not tied down but I found a way to store the plug into one of the holes in the watch band. I use the watch on my bike without purchasing the special holder. I bought a piece of cyliner type insulation for water pipes. I slip the insulation over the handle bar and then wrap the watch band over it making the whole process effortless. I do it because it is not fun to slide the watch out from a wrist band and then reslide it into another accessory so the insulation trick saves me time. If someone has a better solution, I like to hear about it.
Overall, great experience with the watch to date.
I love this product, finally a GPS for golf, workouts, and music in a tiny package! I looked into the ipod nano with nike +, but it won't track cycling workouts because it works on a pedometer rather than GPS. Problem is Amazon wants $100 more than the manufacturer's website. $199 right now with free shipping! check it out![...]

ReplyDeleteIt is a great product. It certain does what it meant to do and is doing it well. The best part of this GPS is that it shows the distance to the hazards which not many other golf GPS can do.

ReplyDeleteI've been using the MotoActv almost daily since I received it about two months ago. I've delayed writing my review because I wanted to give it a full test of the golf package on the device, the primary reason I ordered this. I've now used it for three rounds of golf, and I have to say it works great! It took me some time to figure and configure the golf settings to my liking, and I had some difficulty working it during the first two rounds. But my patience paid off!
ReplyDeleteLet me expound on the golf GPS function for those golfers looking into this device as an alternative to a handheld. I had been using a Callaway uPro for a couple of years, but it was a little buggy; and it was kind of a pain to keep pulling it out of my pocket to check yardage, enter the score, blah, blah, which held play up somewhat. It also required downloading of courses onto the device.
The MotoActv allows the golfer to input every club in their bag along with the average yardage for each. (You can do this from the watch itself.) When you get ready to play, all you do is select, Golf, and it automatically locates the courses in your area. Select the one you're playing and hit start. It took less than a minute for the courses to load. You can also input the weather conditions, handicap and other info. When you get ready to hit, you press the start button and it automatically shows the appropriate club you'll need for that distance. It provides different options for you to select, such as fairway, left rough, right rough, bunker, etc. This is an awesome feature! Swipe to the left, and it shows distances to hazards. When you've finished the hole, it shows your score. At the end of your round, it calculates your score for you. When you get home, you wirelessly sync your round to your computer.
Here's the best part, in my opinion. You go online to the Motoactv website and see your entire round! Each shot, where you walked, course map in satellite view...wow! I'm blown away by how much information and analysis this device provides. This includes an analysis of your game (long game, short game, putting), as well as a detailed scorecard showing how many fairways you hit and averages of where your shots went. I highly recommend the MotoActv over handheld GPS golf devices.
What you'll find out, is that you can wear this watch all the time, because it tracks your steps taken, calories burned, as well as tells you the time/date. I've been using it for my elliptical and bike workouts, and am amazed at how accurate it is. And like the golf function, you can wirelessly sync your workouts and go online to view satellite images of the routes you took. The MotoActv also works as an MP3 player, and headphones are included, although I have not used that function yet.
While some have complained about customer service, the few questions and concerns that I've had were addressed quickly by the online forum and via phone support. I am a total fan of this gizmo, and highly recommend it, especially for golfers.
ReplyDeleteI use MOTOACTV mainly for golf and I am very satisfy with the product. It is very convenient and easy to use. I hope they make second generation of this product with smaller in size but higher in resolution.
