Best GPS I've used (or seen!)

Out of the box the batteries that came in this GPS unit were dead. The box did include a $2 coupon for more though. Once I got some batteries in it, I started it up and checked it out. I decided not to get the Geocache 1 month membership until I knew how to use it. The first thing I did was take some pictures, and that is incredibly easy. There's no flash, but with good lighting the picture quality is great and it is easy to hold the camera and just mash the camera button on the side. Getting them to the computer is as easy as hooking up the included usb cable and looking in the folders of the devise as if it was a flash drive.

I've not owned a GPS before, and this is my first. I'm one of those people who will always attempt to use something before I read the manual. I had to read it for this one, but it is short and sweet and the main thing was just that a TAP on the screen brings up the main 4 menu options. After that it was cake. It took me about 3 hours of sitting down studying the geocache site and the device before my son and I got in the car and drove to our first Geocache site! It was THAT easy. My son is 15 and he was figuring out everything so very intuitively that I MUST say that the interface designers did a terrific job.

Tracking has been very precise. We've done several now and the device has got us right there at the caches. It gives great driving directions too. We LOVE it.

Part of my 3 hours to get this up and running included that I had a problem installing the software. It was an issue with my computer configuration, but when I wrote customer support they were very quick in getting back to me (2 hours turn around) and solved my problem immediately.

  2. I've been using this GPS for a month now and I'm 100% satisfied. It's high quality and well built and feels solid. It does have a steep learning curve at first, but the more you play with it the better you'll understand it. It does seem to have almost too many features. The accuracy of my unit is dead on. It's not even off by more than 2 feet. My favorite feature is the backtrack. You'll always be able to find your way back if you get lost somewhere. Use only lithium batteries for the longest use. The eXplorist series is the best GPS out there right now. I highly recommend.

  4. If you're in to GeoCaching then the Mabellan eXplorist 710 is a fantastic GPS. It must have been designed specifically for this task. I bought it for Search and Rescue but its daily use is Geocaching. Awesome

Most Convenient

Garmin Approach Watch Preloaded Courses I have a golf GPS that requires me to download the course information before I can play for the first time. That process isn't simple or without problems. This Garmin S1 is the easiest thing to use. You turn it on, tell it you want to play a round of golf (since it comes up in watch mode) and it displays a list of the courses nearby. So if you are at a golf course when you tell it you want to play, you don't have to go searching for the course you want to play, it is already on the top of the list you select from. If there is more than one course nearby, as there is at my golf club, the different courses will be listed for you to choose from with the closest first. Using the S1 during play couldn't be easier either. You don't have to change holes manually, it knows where you are and therefore what hole you are on. You can change the holes manually, but it isn't necessary under most circumstances. I...

Great set of basic features

Garmin 4 3 Inch Portable Navigator Lifetime This was to be my first GPS and I wanted outstanding performance in a 5 inch screen, but didn't want or need anything fancy (like Bluetooth, etc) but did want lifetime maps. The Garmin nuvi 50LM was the perfect choice and I have not been disappointed. It is easy to use, fast and accurate. The screen is bright with excellent contrast. It is 'turn by turn" and specifically mentions the names of the streets. The default voice is strong and easy tonhear/understand. Overall, the Garmin nuvi 50LM is simple, basic and outstanding. I also bought the "beanbag" mount for the top of the dashboard and it is GREAT!! It makes is so easy to remove the GPS from sight when parked or after use, plus move the Garmin nuvi 50LM from vehicle to vehicle. In my opinion, the Garmin 50LM is the best value for money for basic "no frills" automotive GPS. I am very pleased with the Garmin nuvi 50LM and my choice in buyin...
